Introduction to Water-based Acrylic Resins

Water-based acrylic resins include acrylic resin emulsion, Acrylic Resin aqueous dispersion (also known as water-dilutable acrylic acid) and acrylic resin aqueous solution.

Compared with the traditional solvent-based coatings, water-based coatings have the advantages of low price, safe use, saving resources and energy, reducing environmental pollution and pollution. Water-borne Acrylic Resin coating is the fastest development and most varieties of non-polluting coatings in water-borne coatings.

Water-based acrylic resins include acrylic resin emulsion, Acrylic Resin aqueous dispersion (also known as water-dilutable acrylic acid) and acrylic resin aqueous solution. The emulsion is mainly synthesized by the emulsification of Olefinic monomers in water under the initiation of aqueous Radical initiator, while the resin aqueous dispersion is synthesized by different processes such as radical solution polymerization or gradual solution polymerization. From the Particle Size: The particle size of Emulsion & GT; the particle size of Resin Water Dispersion & GT; the particle size of water solution. From the perspective of application, the former two are the most important.

Acrylic emulsion is mainly used as the base material of latex paint and has important application in building paint market. At present, its application is still expanding. In recent years, the development and application of aqueous dispersion of acrylic resin have attracted increasing attention, in the industrial coating, the civil coating field application expands unceasingly. According to the monomer composition, it is usually divided into pure acrylic emulsion, styrene-acrylic emulsion, vinyl Acetate emulsion, silicone-acrylic emulsion, tertiary vinegar (tertiary carbonate-vinyl Acetate) emulsion, tertiary acrylic (tertiary carbonate-acrylate) emulsion and so on.

Acrylic water-based paint can be divided into water-dispersible and water-soluble two categories, the former is based on water emulsion or water Sol coatings. The water soluble acrylate paint is made of a copolymer resin with an active crosslinkable functional group, which is a thermosetting paint with or without crosslinkable resin, a paint film in which the active Functional Groups are cross-linked during film formation to form a body structure. The development of water based acrylate coatings can greatly reduce air pollution by replacing most of the volatile organic solvents with water under the conditions that guarantee the unique properties of acrylate coatings.

Water-soluble acrylic resins are mostly anionic, and suitable amount of unsaturated carboxylic acids such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid acid, maleic anhydride acid and methylene succinic acid are selected in the monomers of the copolymer resins, so that the side chains have carboxyl groups, water solubility is obtained by neutralizing the salt formation with organic amines or ammonia. In addition, the water solubility of the resin can be increased by introducing hydrophilic groups such as-OH hydroxyl group,-conh2 Acyl Amino Group or-o-ether bond. A neutralized salt-forming acrylic resin can dissolve in water, but its water solubility is not very strong, often forming a milky liquid or a high viscosity solution, so in the water-soluble resin must add a certain proportion of hydrophilic cosolvent to increase the water-soluble resin.
